Coachella festival has set the benchmark high for US-based music festivals - when Beatportal checked out the 2008 edition, we were knocked sideways by how clean it was, how well organised it was, and by how bad ass the sound and lighting were on the different stages.

The main stage even had surround sound, which they utilised just for Roger Waters (from Pink Floyd) set.

The organisers of Coachella had this clever plastic bottle collection system whereby attendees who picked up 10 plastic bottles and delivered them to a recycling point were given a free bottle of water. The result was a trash-free festival ground.

Electronic music wise, German pioneers Kraftwerk performed on the main stage to an audience who looked slightly bemused (but appreciative), whilst the dance tent pushed credible acts like Sasha & Digweed and Boys Noize.

The 2009 Coachella festival will take place from April 17 - 19th.
