Club11 is dead, long live Trouw

Club11 is dead, long live Trouw

Today we sat down with Olaf Boswijk, one of the directors behind Amsterdam’s newest club venture Trouw, to find out more about their new venue set to open at the end of February.

Boswijk was one of the masterminds behind the now defunct Club11 project, which was bulldozed last year.

The buzz surrounding Trouw started last month when Kristian Beyer from Ame [a] posted some pics on his blog.

Immediately it set tongues wagging, and one of the big questions that kept being asked was whether Trouw would continue Club11’s tradition of commitment to excellent electronic music. The good news is it will.

“Trouw will be a club in the true essence of the word: a basic industrial space, good soundsystem, a bar and cutting edge music,” explained Boswijk. And like Club11, it’ll also be so much more than a dancing spot.

“Trouw is also a restaurant that will offer international streetfood, an art gallery, and an exhibition space. Trouw strips down everything to the bare essentials and, just like 11, it is a temporary project that will come to an end on 31st December 2010.”

When grilled about the type of artists Trouw will feature, Boswijk spiels off a list that reads like the who’s-hot of the underground electronic music scene.

“Confirmed artists so far include Seth Troxler [a], Patrice Baumel [a], Nuno Dos Santos [a], Melon [a], Kode9 & Space Ape, Doc Martin [a], Bart Skills, Mark August [a], Pikaya [a], Shed [a], Alex From Tokyo [a], Dixon [a], Supermayer, Pole [a], Danton Eeprom [a], Prins Thomas [a], Martyn [a], Andy Stott [a], Flying Lotus [a], Gaslamp Killer, Donato Dozzy [a] and Larry Heard [a],” said Boswijk.

“Trouw is a raw, amazingly isolated and a very industrial space that was built for machines, but is now used by humans,” he concluded.

We look forward to checking it out.
