has been an anchor within the drum & bass world, releasing several anthems through Roni Size’s Full Cycle
label and producing remixes for the likes of Bingo Beats and Against The Grain.
He’s had multiple releases with Bristol’s DJ Die, one of which was the massive ‘Number One’ which gets its re-release through Clipz’s own label imprint, Audio Zoo![[a]](http://www.beatportal.com/images/site/misc/wiki_box_a.gif)
.
Beatportal got the chance to catch up with Clipz and shoot him a few questions about Audio Zoo, and what his plans are.
You definitely seem to be busy at the moment, with running your own label and producing and releasing your own records. How do you find time?
I make as much time as I can within reason.
You got to keep a balance of what you want to do.
You’ve been putting out drum & bass releases for years now. How did you get into it?
From when I was young.
I’ve always been into music, and growing up in Bristol was good for me as it had a very strong music scene in the 1980s and 1990s, and still has.
What made you decide to set up Audio Zoo?
I’ve got a vision of what I want to do, and now is the right time to do it.
‘Download’ is a drum & bass parody of the current reaction to people’s reactions to the mp3 industry. What influenced this track?
Everything.
It was a statement of how things had changed for me and the way music in general is taken for granted because it’s so easy to get it.
I’m not saying that’s not a good thing though — the future of music is looking really healthy.

What’s your general opinion towards the growth in the mp3 industry?
It’s exciting.
It’s re-invented music to a new generation.
As long as the artists and the labels get paid, I’m all for it.
You’ve put out a few records with Die and the end of October sees the re-release of ‘No. 1’ on your Audio Zoo imprint. How did this working relationship come about, and is there anybody else out there who you would like to collaborate with?
Me and Die have worked together on an off for a few years, which has been real good.
We always try to create something different to want we’d do on our own.
‘Work It Out’ with Jenna G is a good example of this, which took a long time but has been well received and been stuck in my record box since the day we made it.
Look out for the video (it’s supa nang!) and for the new mix of ‘Number 1’ which was made just for me and Die, but created so much heat we had to put it out for the peeps.
Bristol definitely seems to be the place for not only great drum & bass but music as a whole. Why do you think this is the case?
Bristol’s got vibes cause of loads of different reasons.
Theres a good mix of different cultures, and you can be your own person without getting stress.
And finally, what lies in the future for Audio Zoo?
Nuff tings, blud.
No, on a serious one, I’m in the process of doing an album at the minute, so that’s coming next year.
I’ve got the next two singles lined up.
I’m also starting Wild Life Recordings for other artists who’ve got something to bring to the table, so watch out for dat.
Peace.
