Like Etienne De Crécy’s ‘Fast Track’ from some four years ago, Christian Smith & John Selway ‘Total Departure’ on Adam Beyer’s Drumcode imprint, is a storming techno instrumental.

Amazingly simple in its constituent parts, it’s such a crazed, driving number that, when added to the relentless bassline, it’s likely to drive you over the edge in more ways than one.

This was one of the key moments of WMC ‘08— with fans numbering Felix Da Housecat, Dubfire, Steve Lawler, Sander Kleinenberg and Josh Wink, not least thanks to an equally strong Cirez D (aka Eric Prydz) remix that rounds the edges a little but still makes you feel like you’re roaring down a German autobahn in a Bugatti Veyron driven by The Stig on acid!

And we also hear that Christian Smith is far from over with a handful of other big tunes coming in the next few months including tracks for Dubfire’s Sci+Tec label and Steve Lawler’s Viva label.
