‘Chinook’ heralds the long-awaited return of Dakota

It may be mere weeks since he triumphed at the 2009 IDMAS winning Best American DJ, but Markus Schulz [a] clearly isn’t one to sit still on his increasingly impressive laurels.

‘Chinook’ is the long-awaited return of Markus’s darker, more progressive alter ego Dakota [a]. Paving the way for the hotly-anticipated long player ‘Thoughts Become Things’, this moody, bass-ridden monster is the first Dakota single for a staggering seven years.

With previous Dakota productions featuring on the legendary Deep Dish [a] compilation Global Underground: Moscow, and John Digweed [a]’s seminal Bedrock [a] mix, expectations for Dakota were already sky high before even a single note of new material had been heard.

But with a deep, rolling bass-line gradually giving way to melodic synths and mesmeric high hats, ‘Chinook’ proves to be an absolutely superb piece of dance floor destruction that will have progressive fans as well as Markus’s own hardcore collective in raptures. Crafting peaks and troughs that take you to heady heights before crashing back down again into the darker depths, this is a beautifully produced hands-in-the-air masterpiece that will leave you gasping for more.

‘Chinook’ by Dakota is out now exclusively on Beatport - https://www.beatport.com/en-US/html/content/release/detail/167308/chinook#app=655e&a486-index=0 - and released worldwide on May 18th 2009 through Coldharbour Recordings with Uplifting and After Hours remixes by Markus Schulz.
