Chilly Gonzales and Boys Noize get continental

Pop quiz time! Chilly Gonzales is:

a) a shrugging mustache wearing a Speedo tuxedo
b) an imperial armpit, sweating Chianti
c) socialist lingerie
d) diplomatic techno

If you answered e) for “all of the above,” you are correct! At least, that’s if we’re to take the idiosyncratic Canadian expat at his word on his new single ‘I Am Europe’, co-written and produced by Boys Noize (Alex Ridha). Sounding like a cross between Hot Chip and Survivor’s ‘Eye of the Tiger’, the song’s video mixes inspirations from ‘Rocky’ and ‘The Karate Kid’ to Wes Anderson. (You might notice a familiar face in there: Tiga, playing Gonzales’ dapper chess opponent. Both men star, along with Peaches, in the feature film ‘Ivory Tower’, written and produced by Gonzales and due out this fall.)

‘I Am Europe’ is out today, featuring tough, floor-centric mixes from Djedjotronic, Dirty Doering, and Claude VonStroke. There’s also an acapella, in case you feel like stripping down to socialist lingerie in your next set of diplomatic techno—which, frankly, sounds pretty awesome to us.

Don’t miss Gonzales’ ‘Never Stop’, released in April—the slow-motion disco jam (also co-written and produced by Boys Noize) comes in both a rap version and an instrumental, and Erol Alkan does his best Steve Reich imitation (seriously!) with his ‘Piano Pella’ version.
