Chilean police find crystal meth at Tiësto concert

DJ Tiësto’s image in South America has been tarnished by a drugs scandal after police caught two men with 5.4 grams of crystal meth and over 80 pills at his concert in Santiago on 5th October 2007.

This could have been just another police bust, if this wasn’t the first time that crystal meth has been found in Chile.

The scandal has received a lot of media attention and has given the electronic music scene and Tiësto a bad image in a country that is not used to having theses types of problems (at least not openly).

Chilean police commissary Álex Schwarzenberg revealed that: “One of these man had a contact in Holland to bring the drugs and the other one sold it amongst his friends,” who before being arrested managed to sell a huge quantity of doses.

The scandal is very bad for the electronic music scene in Chile because it has shown the worst side of it.

For people who don’t know about electronic music, they are associating it with hard drugs like ecstasy and crystal meth, drugs that were unheard of in a country that has been protected by its distance from these problems.

Both dealers are currently being prosecuted for drugs trafficking and are waiting for a tribunal resolution who is also investigating some of their clients and their network.
