20 November, 2007 | 3.09PMSolid, if slightly uninspired meeting of musical minds between Secretsundaze resident James Priestley
and the ever-improving Dan Berkson
.
‘Chariots’ is reminiscent of a misspent afternoon or evening, shunning the Sunday roast in favour of a trip down to Priestley’s long running event.
The Original is a typically London style take on the deep house sound that evolves through staccato string bursts and pulses of bubbling synths.
The track is temporarily stripped back mid-point, revealing some classic piano house keys.
What is usually a warm and welcoming sound, in this case, feels a little out of whack when placed alongside the existing elements.
Frankfurt duo Motorcitysoul, who are probably most famous for their ‘Kazan’ single earlier in the year, pitch in with a well rounded take on the Original, deviating little from style or vibe.
A first-rate job is done of allowing the track to gently unfold across its earlier stages until the piano part is eased into, and then out of, the mix.
The synth blobs are re-sculpted and budged on-beat for a rhythmically different dance floor experience.
Some minor niggles aside, ‘Chariots’ a strong release for Simple Records
, with the remix surpassing the Original just by a shade.
