C’est La Vie

Martin Solveig [Mixture]

What a naughty producer Martin Solveig is – giving us record reviewers big French words to play with.

It’s like being back at school, reviewing this song, but funkier than we remember.

Anyway, this EP / LP-type thingy has seven mixes of ‘C’est La Vie’ to entertain us.

“That’s Life” as we say at Beatportal – we just spoil you for choice.

Every one is pretty good to be honest – they’re all very ear-friendly and you could certainly get away with playing the radio edit at your cousin’s wedding with aunties in tow at the early hours when everyone’s wankered and stuffed with hors d’oeuvres.

The vocal is cool ... really cool, sometimes even screeching into semitone-severing blasts that would have your AutoTune plug-in coughing and spluttering.

There’s passion in this record – and we can feel it.

Remix-wise, the club lick is pretty decent – one for the Old Street Massive / Hoxton Whore Wannabees.

The Bloody Beetroots remix is a massively gated, compressed, pumping, Aphex Twin-influenced, glitchy bitch of an electro house abomination.

It sounds great when you’re drunk.

Keep your eyes peeled for Fedde Le Grand’s Pink Bird Dub, not least because it has the words “pink” and “bird” in its title, but also because it’s a hypnotic floor rocker that any self-respecting DJ can rely on.

On a final note, check out the music video for the official song on Martin Solveig’s website to see the amazing U-Min dancers from Tokyo do their stuff.
