Cause And Effect EP
Cause And Effect EP
Montero [Flat Belly Recordings]
23 April, 2009 | 10.32AMEver since Montero’s ‘Captain Hook’ dropped on Renaissance in 2006 I’ve been a big fan of the Belfast duo’s music. Their chunky progressive house cuts always wink at electro house but never fully embrace the brashness, and they always work on the floor.
As such, Montero has become a firm favourite for DJs like James Zabiela (who included ‘Captain Hook’ on his famed ‘Utilities’ mix compilation), Sasha and Sander Kleinenberg.
Their new ‘Cause And Effect’ EP on Ricky Stone’s Flat Belly Recordings is another example of the kind of quality pumping house they’ve become accomplished at.
The Effect Mix of ‘Cause And Effect’ is exactly the type of late night driving house James Zabiela plays (the sound seems to permeate from Southampton quite a lot), with its melodic synth stabs, electro-robotic synths and huge build up.
Contrastingly, the Cause Mix is a more melodic and uplifting track with poignant key changes taking centre stage. It’s the kind of sound Dave Seaman or Matthew Dekay might drop in their sets.
Both mixes will work equally as well, depending on the situation and vibe of the club.
