Cassy’s ‘Simply Devotion’ artists
Cassy’s ‘Simply Devotion’ artists
29 October, 2009 | 7.44AMShe might play in one of the world’s most intimidating DJ booths - in Berlin’s Panorama Bar, but when it comes to talking about her favourite tracks, Catherine Britton, or Cassy
, as she’s known to the underground, struggles.
“I know this is not what you wanted, but I’ve been trying for the last few days, and to be honest I’ve been dreading it,” she says, of her attempts to select her current Weekend Weapons for Beatportal.
What Cassy has done instead, is talk passionately about the artists whom she included on her new ‘Simply Devotion’ mix compilation for Cocoon (out last week).
Over to Cassy…

Cassy: The artists on my Cocoon mix
I was supposed to mention eight tracks and discuss why I liked them for Beatportal, but instead I would love to mention all of the artists on my mix compilation.
Baby Ford, STL, Danny Howells, Kassem Mosse, DJ Qu, Pierre LX, Ralph Falcon, Trus’Me, Jitterbug, Linkwood, Inland Knights.
I hope they mean something to you too! As a DJ you have to fulfill a certain task. You have to move, touch, or reach out to people on the dancefloor. Sometimes it works out great, and sometimes it doesn’t.
In a mix compilation I can reach out to people in a more ‘relentless’ manner, meaning I can play what I want.
I don’t see, hear, or feel the reaction of the listeners, but I still hope that it’s going to be there. Some of the artists mentioned above you will find on Beatport, but some of them only release on vinyl.
Not everyone can afford to buy a turntable and go record shopping every week. I know, I am spoilt rotten. I live in Berlin.
I shop for records every week, in the shops here, and on the internet.
The artists I chose for the compilation are some of my very favourites, and I think it was a good thing that I could fit them all onto one cd, one compilation. The compilation makes complete sense to me. I hope it does so to you too.

Ralph Falcon and Baby Ford are obviously people that don’t need any introduction.
And I don’t know where I would be without Peter Ford, without the influence of his music. Ralph Falcon is one of the most inspiring producers I have ever listened to.
Linkwood, Jitterbug, Trus’Me, Pierre LX, and Kez YM are young (or maybe not so young) artists who have their own touch and sound, and are influenced by artists and music I have always loved.
Kassem Mosse and STL are two German artists that I have listened to, really supported, and adorned for years.
Danny Howells: I was introduced to Danny’s DJing through friends, and it has been so inspiring. Now I’ve got to know and include his music too!
Inland Knights: I have admired Inland Knights’ music for years.
How great to bring all of these artists together! I hope you enjoy it.
