Caspa and Rusko take on Beatport
1 May, 2008 | 3.27AM- Section: Music News Topics: Beatport Blog
Caspa & Rusko, stars of last year’s Fabric mix CD series, seem to have been gracing the pages of every single glossy music magazine under the sun recently.
Their south London grimey dubstep anthems have been carving up dance floors across the globe and championed by main stream BBC Radio DJs Annie Mac and Mary Ann Hobbs.
There is one release specifically that should be in every dubstep customer’s crate, and that is Rusko ‘Babylon Volume 1’.
If you haven’t heard ‘Cockney Thug’ yet, then your mind — as well as your bassbins — are about to be ripped apart.
This track opened up the Skream set at Sonar last year, is part of the credits for the Mary Ann Hobbs weekly radio show, and is going to get a have a massive re-release with remixes from some top name producers, including Buraka Som Sistema, as featured on last year’s prized Fabric mix CD.
I advise you to get this track whilst it is still available.
Also on Sub Soldiers is Caspa ‘Ave It Vol.1’, an EP packed full of heavy, full on, dirty dubstep anthems, including ‘Big Headed Slags’ and reggae tinted ‘Custard Chucker’.
Also worth checking out is Caspa’s Dub Police label, a label that was set up initially to introduce new producers to the scene and highlight up and coming artists.
In actuality, the label has spawned so many new artists and anthems that it has become one of the driving and defining labels within the scene.
N-Type, The Others, Kromestar and L-Wiz are all on this label, and if you haven’t already, then you need to listen to Caspa ‘Cockney Violin’, L-Wiz ‘Girl from Codeine City’ and The Others ‘Bushido’.
If you’re after something heavier with more break, then check out Storming Productions.
Born out of love for the scene, Storming is home to dirtier sounding artists such as Distance, Quietstorm, Darqwan and Boxcutter.
