Carl Kennedy ‘Ride The Storm’
23 April, 2007 | 11.13AM- Section: Music News Topics: House Nation
One of my favourite ‘song-based’ records of recent weeks comes from Carl Kennedy – a New Yorker who’s made Sydney his second home. The simplicity of ‘Ride The Storm’, with ‘80s cuddy toy collector Andrew Roachford, has not gone unnoticed; with a line of record companies making serious enquires about a licence.
The song, an old album track from Roachford, would have disappeared completely under the radar had Kennedy not enlisted the original singer to re-vocal his demo mixes. Job done.
Well not exactly, as a record company who should know better, unable to secure the rights for pocket change, decided to cause as much grief, pain and stress to the producer that they could.
Thankfully common sense prevailed, and Carl will finally be releasing the amazingly simple number on Effin Records.
