Carl Craig and Moritz von Oswald to perform live with classical ensemble at Berghain
9 September, 2008 | 3.20AMIn a little more than a month, on October 17th, Moritz von Oswald and Carl Craig’s recomposition of Maurice Ravel’s ‘Bolero’ will be released on the German jazz-label Deutsche Grammophon.
Ten days prior to that, on October 7th, the two techno originators will take this recomposition to the dancefloor of Berlin’s Berghain., live with a classical ensemble.
The event is part of this year’s edition of Berlin’s music conference and fair Popkomm.
After being host to Berlin’s Staatsballet last year (check out the compilation ‘Shut Up And Dance! Updated’, with tracks from Ame, Sleeprachive, Luciano etc., which was specially produced for this cooperation with the Staatsballet, in the player below), it’s gonna be the second time that club-culture and high-culture will meet on the spacious dancefloor of Berghain.
It’s going to be interesting to see and hear how Carl Craig, Moritz von Oswald and the classical ensemble at their side will slowly transform one of classical music’s biggest pieces to techno live.
If they do it, like they have done on the CD, chances are good that it’s going to be a very special event.
We will see.
And on another note: there will be remixes of von Oswald’s and Craig’s recomposition later this year.
Rumour has it that Ricardo Villalobos was asked to do one of them.
