Carl Cox remix contest winners

Carl Cox remix contest winners

And now the news you’ve all been waiting for. Back in September we launched a remix competition with CR2 Records to find four talented producers to remix a Carl Cox [a] classic anthem. And finally after weeks of nitpicking and listening, CR2 has chosen not four, but five winners.

“It simply was too hard to choose four, there were so many good entries,” said CR2’s Chris Rodwell.

CR2 needed a house version, a techno version, an electro remix and a tech house remix of Carl Cox’ 1991 hit ‘I Want You’.

It turned out to be the most popular remix competition Beatportal has ever run.

Some producers whined about the quality of the 1991 samples, but others prospered, and managed to create chunky dancefloor destroying remixes.

Congratulations to all the winners - their remixes will be released on leading label CR2 on 19th November, and each of the winners will receive a $50 Beatport download voucher.

The Winners

Here’s the winners (in no particular order) and feedback from Chris Rodwell about each mix.

Electro Winner - Aspin & Dipace Remix

“They used a lot of the original elements and effortlessly updated them. Aspin and Dipace were the easy winners of the electro house category.”

House Winner - Jewel Kid Remix

“Straight up house is back with a vengeance and this Malta native showed us why.”

Minimal Winner - The Ascent Remix

“Sounding like Audion Jnr, The Ascent’s mix is pure afterhours sleaze.”

Tech House Winner - Suave Hidalgo Remix

“Suave Hidalgo turns in a sonically great mix that is not dissimilar to recent Gabriel Ananda productions.”

Techno Winner - Andy Slate Remix

“Andy’s wining entry brings to mind the tracks of Marco Carola and wouldn’t sound out of place in a Luciano set.”

Carl Cox v Yousef ‘I Want You (Forever)’ with new Deadmau5 & DJ Marky Remixes will be released in January.
