Burial has a new PR team: Diplo

With Burial taking up real estate on everyone and their mother’s year end top ten lists with his brilliant ‘Untrue’ LP [check it in the player below], it’s no surprise that he’s building on the crossover success he achieved with his 2006 debut.

Lead off single ‘Ghost Hardware’ was tipped by iTunes as their Single of the Week, and DJs from across the dance music spectrum have started weaving his tracks into their sets.

If that isn’t proof enough that Burial’s sound has started to garner appeal well beyond dubstep’s boundaries, a quick stop by the Mad Decent blog – run by Philly’s own Baile funk-loving, electro bass pumping superstar DJ Diplo – reveals that the genre is inching ever closer to high profile visibility.

A couple weeks back, Diplo himself filed a post on the blog fittingly titled ‘We love Burial (and boy 8 bit too),’ the short missive from the Mad Decent boss espouses his love for Burial’s latest release and bigs up the electrified remix of ‘Archangel’ by Boy 8-Bit, a newcomer to the Mad Decent stable.

The mix itself is nothing to write home about, mostly consisting of a subtle electro thump grafted onto the original’s stuttered two-step beats and murky vocal hook, but the implications for dubstep’s exposure in the American market are enormous.

If Diplo really is ‘trying to make this track big,’ as he puts it in the post, then we may very well be hearing a touch more wobbling bass and dubbed out riddims on American dancefloors.

Now, whether or not hearing ‘Archangel’ alongside Brazilian pop and vintage new wave is a good or bad thing is entirely a matter of personal opinion, but a little bit of exposure never hurt anybody.
