Burglars strike at BT’s studio
22 March, 2007 | 4.55AMUS electronic music superstar BT
had his studio broken into by burglars recently, who swiped $150,000 US worth of equipment.
The producer is so distraught that he is offering a $20,000 reward in exchange for the name and address of the scallywags.
“I have been robbed of much of my current gear, for both recording and three different live shows,” read a statement on BT’s website.
“Over 150k dollars of gear was stolen, including my main show computer containing the entire show for This Binary Universe.
“I am not asking for this information for retaliation.
“I am asking for this information and implementing an unorthodox approach in the hopes of actually recovering my music and equipment.”
BT aka Brian Transeau was on the verge of completing his fourth artist album ‘Emotional Technology’ but the theft has left BT without much of the LP that was still work-in-progress.
The devastating theft has indeed left BT
without much of his life’s work.
BT is so desperate to get his music and equipment back that, as well as the reward, he is offering his services as a producer to anyone who helps him get his stuff back.
And BT has decided to take a stand against thieves, by setting up his own non-profit subscription service where producers can get all their kit ‘thumbprinted’ with unique codes and serial numbers in the hope that it will make it easier for equipment to be identified and returned to its rightful owner.
BT also plans to use his organization to donate used or unwanted equipment to producers who cannot afford to buy any.
Brian concluded: “Maybe this personal setback will make it possible for some kid who can’t afford an audio interface, some software, a computer and other things needed to make music, even one person, the opportunity to make music that brings light to a place deeply in need of it.”
