Bruised
Bruised
Sigha [Hotflush ]
28 January, 2009 | 2.28PMHotflush’s flirtation with techno in recent weeks has reached the point of a full-on proposition.
‘Bruised’, the debut release from London based producer Sigha
, drops the horseplay and leads with a deep-as-a-chasm cruise into the world of 4/4.
Sighting Basic Channel
and Shed
as primary influences, Sigha captures the current climate of cross pollination perfectly on title track ‘Bruised’.
A sparse, wintery soundscape is underpinned by an industrial strength, double-time kick drum that solidifies an overbearing feeling of unease.
The ghosts of a forgotten idea or theme still linger in the background as you strain to hear exactly what they are meant to be saying or contributing.
‘Expansions’ meanwhile moves some way back towards familiar ground, but only by a shade.
More percussion-based than its predecessor, the track sounds as though it was composed on the bones of a dead raver; a solitary chord offers a comforting glimmer of melodic relief, albeit under the dark rule of post-Skull Disco drums.
A release for funerals and the darkest corners of clubland.
