Brandt Brauer Frick pull the plug

The Brandt Brauer Frick Ensemble turns techno inside out on its new album, You Make Me Real, scoring club-influenced tracks for orchestral ensembles. Daniel Brandt, Jan Brauer, and Paul Frick, who have deep backgrounds in jazz and classical composition, are the latest examples of a mini-movement that aims to instigate a dialogue between contemporary club culture and acoustic musical traditions; they join the likes of Francesco Tristano [a], Electro Guzzi, and Wareika [a], along with Deutsche Grammofon’s Recomposed series, featuring classical reworks from Jimi Tenor [a], Matthew Herbert [a], and Moritz Von Oswald [a] with Carl Craig [a].

You Make Me Real is out this week on K7 Records [l], and it’s a lush, fascinating album, with deep house and downtempo grooves driven by tympani, bass clarinet, prepared piano and similarly resonant materials.
