The Brandt Brauer Frick Ensemble turns techno inside out on its new album, You Make Me Real, scoring club-influenced tracks for orchestral ensembles. Daniel Brandt, Jan Brauer, and Paul Frick, who have deep backgrounds in jazz and classical composition, are the latest examples of a mini-movement that aims to instigate a dialogue between contemporary club culture and acoustic musical traditions; they join the likes of Francesco Tristano, Electro Guzzi, and Wareika, along with Deutsche Grammofon’s Recomposed series, featuring classical reworks from Jimi Tenor, Matthew Herbert, and Moritz Von Oswald with Carl Craig.

You Make Me Real is out this week on K7 Records, and it’s a lush, fascinating album, with deep house and downtempo grooves driven by tympani, bass clarinet, prepared piano and similarly resonant materials.
