Box Codax: Seven Silvers
Box Codax: Seven Silvers
29 June, 2011 | 3.05AMWhen he’s not providing the chugging rhythm guitars for Franz Ferdinand’s famously “angular” guitar sound (and we do mean famous: googling “Franz Ferdinand” + “angular” returns nearly two million hits!), Nick McCarthy applies similar pick-work to his jittery disco-punk trio Box Codax.
Last month, some five years after their debut album, Box Codax released the follow-up Hellabuster, once again on Gomma. It’s a cheeky collection of amped-up rave-ups, drunken shout-alongs and jagged funk that slots nicely between DFA and Stiff Records. The lead single ”Seven Silvers” ought to scratch that unhinged-disco itch while you’re waiting for the forthcoming album from The Rapture, and it comes with remixes from Telonius, Den Haan, Rodion, and The KDMS.
The black-lit video is vaguely NSFW, but then, what isn’t, these days?
