Bouncers beat up Soulwax at Liverpool gig

Belgium band Soulwax aka 2manyDJs were slapped about by brain dead security guards at a Chibuku club night in Liverpool last Friday, after the band encouraged punters to get a bit closer to the stage.

Videos have surfaced on the Internet, showing the moment when it all kicked off (read on to watch the video).

We tried to find a tenuous musical link to go with the beating and thought that Soulwax’ Nite Version of Gossip’s ‘Standing In The Way of Control’ sums it up quite nicely (check it out in the player below).

Soulwax given a slap by security

The footage clearly shows one of the Soulwax members being pushed to the ground by a big bouncer, whilst the crowd boo in a disapproving manner.

Chibuku issued this statement about the incident:

“After close consideration and speaking to all parties involved it has been agreed that the issues on Friday night could have been avoided.

“Even though the club was well within capacity, it is clear the hysteria and chaos that can be inspired by a Soulwax appearance does take considerable extra management.

“The events on Friday would have been a lot less likely and easier to manage by the security had a barrier or pit been established within the venue for which Nation have taken responsibility.

“Both Chibuku and Nation are in agreement what when on was totally unsatisfactory and can never be given the opportunity to happen again.

“From our point of view we have spoken to everyone individually who has complained and have made moves in an individual basis to make it up to them.

“I’m waiting to hear from the band on who did make it clear to me personally on Friday they would make it up to the fans.

“In respect of Chibuku and Nation, the future is under debate and we will keep you posted.”

It ain’t the first time that Soulwax has been on the end of a bouncer’s fist.

Stephen Dewaele got beaten up in Miami by bouncers during a DFA party, when he stepped outside the club to talk to his girlfriend.
