Bomb Alert! Justin Faust & Vincent Fries - Bavarian Barbarian
23 August, 2011 | 6.11AMNu-disco sounds the same as a washed-out 8mm camera looks on a sun-shiny day in South Beach, and Vincent Fries with compatriot Justin Faust don’t need to take more than a second and a half to exploit its storied fun-in-the-sun vibe on their new release through Work It Baby, “Bavarian Barbarian.”
No strangers to the disco-house scene, Fries and Faust go straight to the big room on the opening track of the EP, “Choppy Stick.” Huge basslines and flanging synth leads take the opener to its massive drop when the bigger-than-an-elephant-with-a-glandular-problem kick comes storming back in. The rest of the tracks on the release are solo Vincent Fries and show off his more house-minded side. “Hooligang,” with its game-show trumpet loop, is a perfect segue track into “Jim Jam,” which was previously released on the label’s ”10th Anniversary” EP. “Pocket Rocket” closes the EP and leans more disco than the rest of the tracks; disco strings and that nice abrasive guitar wacka make this closer a peak-timer.
Did you know that “Faust” means “fist” in German? No wonder. Pump it!
