Bomb Alert: Caribou remixes Virgo Four
Bomb Alert: Caribou remixes Virgo Four
20 June, 2011 | 4.59AMWe try to refrain from getting too caught up in the feedback game here on Beatportal; a lot of those cries of “Full support!” can sound pretty routine. But every now and then, a record comes along and inspires such widespread swooning that you know it’s something special.
The new Virgo Four record on Rush Hour
is one of those. The original track, “It’s a Crime,” was released last year on Resurrection, a five-piece box set of unreleased material the Chicago duo produced between 1984 and 1990; for fans of vintage house stylings—which, these days, seems to be pretty much everyone in house music—it’s a sweet, sweet tune. Berlin’s Hunee delivers a brilliant, fleet-footed mix with plenty of skip in its step and a pleasingly classic sound. But it’s a remix from none other than Caribou
that’s really turning heads.
Trevor Jackson is calling it “phenomenal, best remix of 2011 so far.” Cosmo Vitelli
deems it “a masterpiece,” and Francois Kevorkian praises the “lovely build-up, tingling the acid taste buds.” It’s also getting rave reactions from ND Baumecker, Deetron
, Michel De Hey
, Horsemeat Disco’s Jim Stanton, Chris Duckenfeld of Swag
, Mock & Toof, Versatile Records
Gilb’r, Funk D’Void, Simbad, Secretsundaze’ James Priestley, Brett Johnson
, Darren Emerson
, Axel Boman, even Berghain’s Norman Nodge, despite the fact that it would seem to be about the most un-Berghain track you could imagine.
Ewan Pearson
might have the highest praise: “The Caribou mix will be one of my records of 2011. Superb production, dynamics, excitement… The kind of track that makes you look at your own efforts and think… damn, must try harder!”
If you can make even Ewan Pearson feel like he needs to step up his game, you’ve gotta be doing something right. Read on to hear audio samples, and the release here.
