There’s been an abundance of retro-sounding house releases this year, right? Combined with a renewed appreciation for pioneers MK, Virgo and Mood II Swing, there’ve been more 120BPM tempos, soulful voices and rolling piano loops than you could jab a stick at.

But a French veteran of the form, Alexkid, has injected something fresh into the mix.

Those who have switched on to Alexkid in the last few years will be better acquainted with his crisp, bouncy and dub-influenced tech house, but delve a little deeper into his back catalogue (particularly around the time of his excellent album Mint for F-Communications) to hear for yourself just how well the the man knows his house music.

His 2011 take on the genre finds him looser and deeper than ever before; ”Shesgottoleave” is a simple, jacking track, with a four-note chord progression, looped vocal and a heavy bass swing, and it achieves one hell of a groove.

Alexkid’s original is the pick for me, but for more DJ-friendly alternatives Radio Slave offers his famous remix treatment twice: sharpening the high hats and pitching down the vocals for loopy ten-minute workouts via his ”Break For Love Remix” and the instrumental ”Break For Love Beats” mix. Grab ‘em all, plus additional track ”Class of 95,” which boasts its own Bassfort remix, exclusively on Beatport.
