While the EP’s title track is a noteworthy effort in its own right, it’s the Adam Beyer
remix of Mathew Jonson
‘Marionette’ that’s been getting people excited.
‘Big Dipper’ sees the pair bringing the best out of each other, with Jonson’s mystical airiness countered by Beyer’s dynamic thump.
It’s already on wide rotation with DJs of a deeper techno persuasion, but as you’d expect with a Beyer-related project, it’s sharply tuned for full mixing potential.
However, the one you’ll be hearing all summer is Beyer’s slamming rework of ‘Marionette’, one of Jonson’s undoubted finest moments.
A dead-cert festival anthem that respectfully enlarges upon the original’s unforgettably haunting riff, the track’s predictably the subject of some controversy, with many fans and critics suggesting it should have been left well alone.
Sure, it may not be quite as spine-tingling as the original - which ranks high in many people’s favourite techno tracks of all time - but as before, Beyer’s endowed a mix-friendly sheen that enables it to be dropped in a much wider range of situations.
Whichever side of the fence you sit on, one thing’s for certain - this is guaranteed to be huge.
