3 January, 2008 | 6.07PMSome things never go out of style: Aston Martins, parkas and cinematic Detroit techno.
Marco Passarani’s Nature
label has been representing this timeless sound for over a decade, but ‘Beyond The Dark’ is one of the label’s best examples of electronic musicality.
Raiders keep the focus on warm, emotional sounds, as melancholic chords and epic strings sweep in, followed only a few minutes later by a purring bassline and a laidback rhythm.
It’s like Underground Resistance in mellow form, but the best is yet to come: while DJS2 and Los Hermanos’ remix is adept at bringing Raiders’ musical sounds into a rolling, clubby context, there’s also a reshape by Galaxy 2 Galaxy.
Responsible for one of Detroit’s greatest techno records, ‘Hi Tech Jazz’, this rare remix from the elusive Motor City act features haunting, evocative synths, rich strings and an acid sequence that spirals and climaxes so seductively that it feels like G2G have been given some sort of exclusive license to make music that automatically produces a good mood chemical.
If this remix doesn’t give you goose bumps, you’re dead from the head down.
