Don Oliver’s gloriously soulfully appealing ‘Better’ on Milk & Sugar sucks you in, as near-hypnotic Hammond organ driven rhythms are matched by the astutely powerful vocals of Barbara Tucker — the voice behind club classics like ‘Deep Inside’, ‘Beautiful People’, ‘I Get Lifted’, and ‘Stop Playing With My Mind’.

The song actually first appeared back in 2005 on the French Chic Music label, but a little more mature now, this hybrid of US house and rattling retro-funk’s still an attention grabber full of subtle qualities: shuffling hats, a chunky kick drum, organ pads aplenty and a powerful vocal to match the tight ‘n’ sophisticated production.

Pick of the mixes are the ones that surfaced a few years back, namely from house vet Djaimin, along with Chrissi D (also to be found on mix chores on Full Intention’s current single ‘I Believe In You’), while of the new creations Niko De Luka lead the way.
