Ben Mono ‘Hit The Bit’ is remixed
22 April, 2008 | 1.06PM- Section: Music News Topics: House Nation
Ben Mono, know to his mum as Paul Beller, had a pretty nifty album last year on Compost called ‘Hit The Bit’.
It fared so well with fans and critics alike so much so that the label has now decided to restyle the lead track and issue it under the guise of ‘Hit The Bit Remixed’.
Featuring Tampa, Florida-based group Yo Majesty who have been known to challenge the male chauvinist standard in hip-hop music with their hardcore female bravado adopting an almost punk approach to a hybrid of southern crunk and 1980s-styled electro.
The combination works a treat, not least thanks to Lorenz Rhode’s Gallic-influenced remix where heavy basslines and taut synths collide head-on to hit you like a lost Kris Menace or Alan Braxe master.
Add a brace of additional mixes from Loose Cannons and electroclashing Swedish punk Dibaba and you’ll quickly hear why Justice referred to this as a “dark electro vibe between Cybotron and Prince”.
