Beatportal to join Nic Fanciulli on tour

This week I’ll be joining Grammy nominated DJ and producer Nic Fanciulli [a] on the road for the start of his monumental worldwide tour. On Thursday I’ll hook up with Nic in Chicago for a gig at Spy Bar, and then I’ll be superglued to his side till Sunday through Toronto and Montreal.

Nic Fanciulli is undeniably on a roll at the moment thanks to the recent successes of his Saved Records [l] imprint, that has quickly established itself as one of the leading labels in British techno. His eye-opening new mix for Global Underground which was released last week is quickly gaining critical acclaim.

Being asked by leading electronic music proponent Global Underground to launch a brand new compilation series is no mean feat, and Global Underground director Andy Horsfield explained in a statement that the choice of Nic was based solely on merit.

“I feel now is the time for us to give world class DJs like Nic the opportunity to really show the world how amazing they are,” he said.

“I picked Nic to launch this series for us as he is the one DJ who has consistently impressed me every time I’ve seen him play, be it at Space in Ibiza or WMC in Miami. Nic always delivers and he is hands down a truly amazing DJ.”

Those words come from a man who has helped the careers of some of the world’s most famous DJs including Sasha, John Digweed, Sander Kleinenberg, Danny Howells, Paul Oakenfold and Lee Burridge.

A few years ago Pete Tong named Nic Fanciulli one of the best up and coming DJs and residents in the UK, and since his Club Class days in Maidstone Nic’s global profile has soared somewhat. A 2007 tour alongside James Zabiela under their One+One banner was a career-changing move for both artists and it went a long way to establishing their names in North America.

Further justification for joining Nic on tour came after I heard a sneak peak of his new and remarkable Global Underground mix (catch a preview in the player below). Combining all manner of different moods from downtempo and dubstep, via Metro Area’s deep house, Seth Troxler’s understated soul, Spencer Parker’s chunky house and Dubfire’s techno, the compilation showed a maturing of sound, and an ability to tell an emotive story via perfect mixing and excellent programming. I had to hear it live for myself.

Touring with Nic Fanciulli is Kos, another talented up and comer from Britain. As the official warm up DJ for Nic and James during their One+One tour, Kos has quickly established himself as a future star. With his debut album ‘Zero To Hero’ having received some praise in 2007 and his much loved Familia parties continuing in London, Kos too has been plugging away at this DJ lark for many years. It will be interesting to see him perform too.

The live tour blog begins on Thursday so stay tuned.
