Beatport Live presents Dirt Crew (Break 3000)

We’re finally back into the house-music swing of things, following an exciting and eclectic post-holiday show from Kangding Ray from last week. Our friend Peter, one half of the Berlin techy house duo Dirt Crew, joined us for an in-office session this past Wednesday for a superb, two-hour mixdown covering the gamut of all things house. The crew has long been churning out fantastic records of their own, along with releases from an onslaught of great producers on their Dirt Crew Recordings imprint. In this edition of Beatport Live, you can hear plenty of new tracks from them, as well as some unreleased gems and clever ‘80s edits which caught us by surprise.

Read on to check out the archived session, and peep their latest top 10 on Beatport here.

Thanks for stopping by Beatport to play for us! What’s it like to play in the Beatport booth, and have you done other live Internet shows like this?

Thank you for inviting me, it was great. Really liking your new office there! And the booth is perfectly set up. Also really liked the beamer, it made our logo look great. And yes, I have done lots of live internet and radio shows, mostly in more smoky circumstances… Hehe.

Could you tell us a little about your track selection today?

Well, basically I just start somewhere and then see where it leads me. Mostly the music tells me where to go with my mix. I tried to include all styles of my DJng here. I am into lots of styles as you can hear, from proper deep house to techno and ‘80s to disco gems. I’ve been DJing for quite a while now and always like to pull some old stuff from when I started. So yes, this set was also very eclectic!

What’s your preferred DJ setup?

Around four years ago, I decided to go totally digital and only play with CDs, as this is the perfect medium for me. Only when I’m in Berlin do I sometimes bring some vinyl to my gigs, but I haven’t bought new a record in years. So these are only my pearls from the past. I just get a lot of new unreleased music, and the CD is the perfect thing for me. I really hate to DJ with a computer. Laptop DJs are just boring to watch… So yeah give me a good mixer—and I mean a GOOD mixer! Urei, Bozak or Rane rotaries preferred—and two CDJ 2000s, and I’m a happy man!

What unreleased material should we be keeping our eyes open for?

Well I played three new Dirt Crew things in my set! First of all, the next release by Charlie Banks, coming out January 30 with two excellent remixes by Lukas and Christophe from Futureboogie in Bristol. Secondly, the new Tigerskin and Till Von Sein

For listeners who want to check you out in person, could you tell us where you’ll be touring next?

Well, you can find me all over Berlin usually… and I am doing a big Dirt Crew Night at Ritter Butzke on January 27! So mark that in your calendars! It’s my favorite club in Berlin and I am very happy to do my label nights there regularly.

Other fun stuff coming up: Stereo 621 in Mannheim on January 20 and Charles Bronson in Halle on the January 21. And we will be doing Panorama Bar on February 25! Really looking forward to that one.
