Beatport launches hip-hop download website Beatsource!
15 February, 2008 | 12.56PM- Section: Music News Topics: Beatport Blog
Today, Beatport marks the launch of hip-hop and urban music download website Beatsource.com.
Beatport has long been recognized as the leader in electronic music downloads, and seeks to utilize all of its current technology to open the wealth of hip-hop archives to the world with Beatsource.com.
As an appropriate homage to the heritage of hip-hop and its worldwide influence, Beatportal was pleasantly surprised to see the Newcleus classic ‘Jam On It’ from 1984 as the first ever No.1 download for Beatsource.com.
Not far down the line is the highly revered J Dilla with his cut ‘Nothing Like This’.
Of course, the latest future classics are available as well, offering a complete package of urban delights, including a wealth of Beatsource digital exclusives.
With over 800 labels having joined the site so far, we found Stones Throw, Big Dada, Delicious Vinyl, among others.
Essential artists such as KRS One, Grandmaster Flash and Madlib? It’s on!
The benefit of DRM free downloads in multiple formats needs no explanation to the Beatportal community, so we’re excited to start downloading and delve deeper into this important music source.
While we think that the real prize is in visiting Beatsource.com to check out the music itself, there’s also a ‘Great Launch Giveaway’, awarding over $10,000 in prizes from Apple, Pioneer, Native Instruments and Beatsource to any registered user who joins Beatsource before March 15th.
Plus, any new registered user gets 10 free downloads.
‘Jam On It’ indeed.
PS To celebrate the launch of Beatsource, we designed some special 40s just for the occasion (see images).
