Re: songwriting formulas?

It really helped me to take a look at the wave form of tech house tracks in an audio editor. It told me a lot about the overall structure of a dance track.

You can see where breakdowns are in the song, where the more energetic sections are, etc.

Once you’ve looked at a few, you’ll see they’re all very similar. Then it’s just a matter of listening to see how different producers work within (and break out of) the standard structure.

Grab a few tracks that you like from Beatport if you don’t already have some 12” releases on hand. It will help you a lot!

Rekids
Rekids is one of the most, if not the most consistent label out there, releasing wave upon wave of tasty treats for our shell-likes, and now they’ve gone and released a double CD ‘Rekids Compilation’ review of the label’s output to date.

If, like me, you already buy everything they put out as a matter of course, then the CD is a reminder of just how good their releases have been, however, if you’ve not had the chance of keeping up with the vinyl releases then now is the time to do something about it.

And just to keep as all salivating that little bit more, the CD has a couple of exclusives, which have now seen the light of day on vinyl in the shape of a limited sampler.

Toby Tobias’ ‘A Close Shave’ and Spencer Parker’s ‘Beautiful Noise’ both get the unreleased mix treatment, but I’ve gone for the disco-frenzy refix by Brontasaurus of Toby Tobias!

Brilliant, is all I’ve got to say on the subject!*!

Another Black Season ‘Gold’s Not Enough’

The ‘Gold’s Not Enough’ remix is out on Beatport. Beatport.com is a great electronic music download site. The track is in the new releases section for both electronica and progressive house or search artists for ‘Another Black Season’.

Beatfanatic ‘Around The World In 80 Beats

I gave you a Beatfanatic track ‘Let Us Pray’ that I was feeling a couple of weeks ago.

Now I have a couple more from this funky Swede’s new album ‘Around The World In 80 Beats’, which comes off the Soundscape label.

The two I have chosen both have a bit of a disco feel to them, but you will find elements of latin, afro and house running through this excellent full length release from the man who calls himself Beatfanatic.
