Beatport in the news, June 13th

More Beatport news, info and love from around the world, courtesy of the big computer network thingy we call the Internet.

Cobra Dukes [a]

Cobra Dukes is Kevin McKay’s first project on his brand-new Prestel label.

McKay is also a partner in BreastFed Recordings that he founded together with Mylo and Linus Love.

You might also know him as the man behind Linus Love’s critically-acclaimed ‘Space Invaders’.

After he helped promote and mix Mylo’s debut in 2005, he formed a new project Cobra Dukes with his pal Marcas Lancaster.

Cobra Dukes’ ‘Leave The Light On’ is the group’s first single.

It is a compelling electro-tune with a quirky rock & roll edge to it.

Kyle Gibson’s David Byrne-esque vocals and Lucas Gianello’s gritty guitar riff combine with a bubbling Moog synth beat to make this a rather unusual but very accomplished tune to listen and dance to.

It has been described as ‘new wave delirium’ which sums it up quite nicely.

There are also remixes by Knightlife and Fred & Thang.

The single will formally be released on Beatport (July 2), iTunes (July 16) and glow-in-the-dark vinyl (July 30).

Beatportal - Looks Great

This looks like this new effort by Beatport may actually be an essential daily stop in my internet travels for news.

I’ve been watching it for a week or so, and it’s really shaping up to have an editorial voice as well as links to information around the internet.

Having an editorial voice that shapes the news is a good differentiator for what essentially is available in other forms elsewhere - so big ups to Beatport for adding more value to their store.

Disclaimer: I’ve been a fan of Beatport since they launched.
