Beatport gets Bad Advice!
19 September, 2008 | 9.54AMNate Manic’s Chicago-based label makes its debut on digital download powerhouse.
As far as scope of influence and importance on the global dance scene goes, Chicago has always maintained a solid spot at the forefront of electronic music, from the early days of the Warehouse and Frankie Knuckles to the house music explosion of the ‘90s, fueled by DJ/producers like Derrick Carter, Mark Farina, Green Velvet and Superjane.
More recently the emergence of the “new school”, led by labels like Potty Mouth, Control and Spatula City has been picking up where these icons left off as their global popularity grew. Enter Bad Advice Inc., the brainchild of Midwest merry prankster Nate Manic. Already ubiquitous on the Midwest scene as an accomplished DJ and promoter, Manic has focused his attention on building a catalog of music from the very best that the region has to offer alongside the talents of the UK’s top up-and-coming producers. From the glitched out Tech sounds of HeavyFeet, Full Phat and Ministry Of Sound DJ Mix competition winner Cheap as Chimps to the House-heavy grooves of Jon Milsom, Tommy Largo and James Curd, Bad Advice’s releases have caught the eyes and ears of the industry’s top jocks, including Derrick Carter (who recently charted Manic’s “It’s Never Easy” for French site Phunkster), Johnny Fiasco, Q-Burns, Santiago, Angel Alanis and Mark Farina among others- not bad for a label that has only seen a half dozen releases so far. A hectic Fall and Winter release schedule is currently underway, with a total of 6 more EPs coming out between now and Miami’s 2009 Winter Music Conference. Take some Bad Advice and keep an eye out for more to come from this eclectic and dynamic label!
