Beatport Beach Party: It’s a wrap
Beatport Beach Party: It’s a wrap
3 April, 2010 | 9.00AMWe here at Beatport would like to thank everyone who supported us during Miami’s WMC last week.
Our goal was to create an event that would allow people from the industry to interact while providing a fun free event for music lovers to enjoy music and artists from Beatport. During our three day event, we hosted 30 of the world’s top DJs who showcased new music that will soon be available to download from Beatport. Additionally many other top artists, managers, technology companies, and industry professionals came through the Beatport Beach Party grounds for meetings and networking.
A special thanks goes to all the artists, managers, stage hands, sound engineers, Miami locals, and any one else we’ve forgotten about for helping to put together this amazing event.
If you were able to attend, check out the below videos to relive the weekend’s best moments, or if you didn’t make it, see what you missed out on! See you next year.
Miami Wrap-up from the eyes of the CEO
I’m not going to lie and pretend that my job sucks. As a matter of fact, its a dream job for anyone who loves music, DJing, design and the internet. Its the kind of job that sometimes is so good that you have to remind yourself that it really is a job and there is work to do. Case in point being this year’s 2010 WMC and Beatport Beach Parties.
A multiple day spring frenzy highlighted by the never ending sounds of really good music and performances. To me, its like a gigantic international portfolio review filled with crowds ranging from spring breakers to seasoned industry executives who all simultaneously gather to voluntarily serve as guest critics endorsing each event with their attendance.
Large or small, these gatherings have something to offer to those that attended and should leave a bit of envy for those that didn’t make the journey. Each year, hundreds of events are trying to be the “it” party by flexing talent line ups that create truly once in a lifetime experiences. It’s hard to say that any one party actually achieves the “it” status because so many people are looking for such diverse experiences. And believe me, you can find it all. However, one thing is for certain, everyone is there to have fun and create amazing memories.
For Beatport, the week has a different meaning. Its a chance for us to say “Thank You” to all that support our company and our mission. Its our chance to showcase our brand and give back to the community that supports us everyday. For the past five years we have tried to create something special with our events and I have to say that I could not be any prouder of my team for delivering our best series of events. Ever.
The 2010 Beatport Beach Parties were by far the largest audience we’ve ever hosted with nearly 10,000 people over the three day schedule. The Gansevoort Hotel played host to our event providing us with a perfect space to take our party to the next level. Pioneer Pro DJ and Armani Exchange helped sponsor the event and provided first class service to our DJs and guests.
Insomniac Events helped us with production and promotion. Even MTV joined the party this year, broadcasting live from our stage during our Sunday finale party. To top it off, I’m pretty sure I spotted record execs from all four major record labels listening closely to the crowd response from the talent on our stage. Electronic music is back in a big way.
Now remember, for the last six months, these parties have been blurry ideas that have come into focus around building a new vision for our events. What started out as simple diagrams and budget discussions eventually turned into the 2010 Beatport Beach Parties. The team went from “wouldn’t it be cool if” discussions to “lets make it happen” in a matter of weeks. What started out a few years ago as small party has matured into an annual gathering for all those who celebrate the sounds of our industry. As you can imagine, we take tremendous pride in this event and look forward to many years to come.
The Beatport parties were obviously not the only highlight of this years WMC. There were literally dozens of stand out events that showcased today’s top talent and helped build the future of tomorrow’s hero’s. We are all a part of this community and it feels great to see it so healthy and happy. I came home from Miami in a good place. Feeling pride for what my team has accomplished and feeling humble to be a part of such a global movement.
To all of you that made it to Miami, I hope your experience was as positive as mine. Please share your thoughts with us through the comments section of Beatportal. I can’t be the only person that had a good time in Miami!
