Londoners Dean Mushin and Lou Page`s partnership as Bearweasel continues to flourish in 2009 with the release of the Duck Hunt EP on Supernature. Returning to the label on which their production first saw the light of day,the intervening time has seen them put out tracks on the likes of Tsuba, Murmur and 8Bit, and quickly garnered themselves a reputation for some seriously groovy and classy house music. This five-tracker brings us three new offerings with a pair of remixes.
Opener Superhero is a cut of percussive, chunky deepness that playfully stretches time and space as it winds through a circuitous route of dub-influenced stabs, with Boris Werner (of Remote Area fame) taking the track on an electronic tribal tip to great effect. Second effort Where`s Ratty is a looped-up houser with guitar licks that cleverly phases, filters and drops its elements to give an unrelenting groove. Ali Nasser`s rework is deep, percussive, and sumptuous. Final number of the trio is Busy, a head-nodding cut that chugs along with a rolling bassline and bongos, constructed with the sunshine in mind. Impressive.
