Audion ‘Billy Says Go’ remix winners!

Audion’s ‘Billy Says Go’ remix contest saw 537 aspiring producers put their skills to work and submit their best remix, and we sent the top five remixes as voted for by the public and another five chosen by Beatport genre managers to Spectral Sound and Matthew Dear.

Of these ten, a winner and two runners-up have been chosen.

Spectral have not yet decided whether they will release any of the winners but they are considering all three, and will make a decision within the next few weeks

Drum roll, please…

Winner: The Missing Link remix

Name: missinglink813 aka Matt Cavender
From: Denver, Colorado
Age: 27
Remix style: minimal

The Missing Link aka Matt Cavender gives the shaky face

Our first place winner, Matt Cavender, says that he’s been working as a producer since he got Cubase 3.5 at the tender age of 16, and has been producing ever since. He didn’t have much time to work on his remix and so it was quite surprising for him to win first place.

With releases on Wagon Repair [l] and Milehighhouse labels, he has since made the move to his current label, Toggle Recordings, a joint venture among his brother, cousin, Detroit buddy and himself.

Some biographical information includes the following:
The youngest of three brothers, Matt was privy to a music experience that many don’t get in life. Early experimentation with electronics and musical gear was a fascination for young Matt as he stumbled around as a 10 year old with size 13 shoes. His posture and demeanor as a young lad garnered him the nickname “The Missing Link.” As a kid The Link was listening to forward thinking electronic acts such as Cabaret Voltaire, Front 242, Skinny Puppy, Tackhead, Al Jourgenson’s bands, Front Line Assembly, Nitzer Ebb, Kraftwerk and others in the industrial genre of the time. It was 1991 when The Shamen released an ep entitled “Move any Mountain” and a year later The Prodigy released “The Experience” It was all over after that. Ilk bought a Korg MonoPoly around 1994 of 95 (the real deal, not any of this virtual stuff) and let The Link borrow it. In his own words “Like a vacuum, that thing sucked me in like pocket lint.”

Andrey

Andrey has worked with several other DJs and producers, among them, Milos Pavlovic [a] (Balkon [a] [l], Momentum [a] [l]), Marko Nastic [a] (Traffica [l], Recon Warriors [l]),and Marko Milosavljevic [a] (Traffica, Recon Warriors).

Says Andrey on being chosen for second place:The fact that somebody appreciates your work and creativity (together with the style of this remix) is fulfilling and motivating for my future efforts in production.

3rd Runner-Up: Fly-O-Tech remix

Name: Demian Muller
From: Vina del Mar, Chile
Remix style: Indie dance/nu disco
Website: www.myspace.com/flyotech

Fly-O-Tech strike a pose

Fly-O-Tech is a Chilean duo comprised of 24-year old Demian Muller and 25-year old Rob Golden. As Fly-O-Tech they’ve played together for five years, and have started producing only this year. They’ve been involved with DNW Records [l] from Chile, and also have a track coming out on Pild Records from Uruguay in November with a remix from Rocha & Lewinger. As DJs they’ve shared the booth with Randall Jones [a], Rocha & Lewinger [a], Christian Smith [a], Adam Freeland [a], Jamie Stevens [a], Dario Zenker [a], Sandra Collins and Jason Jollins [a].

Says Fly-O-Tech: We tried to make some strong beats to give the track something different and fresh, unfortunately we didn’t have more time to get into the remix, but we are really happy for this 3rd place. Nowadays we are spending lots of time in the studio and we hope to get more tracks. Definitely Beatportal is ahead of remix competitions, and to be on the podium is always an honor. Thanks to Beatportal and Spectral Sounds for this opportunity and we hope all three remixes will be released.

Thanks to all who participated, and congratulations to the winners!
