Henrik Schwarz has been on somewhat of a roll recently, culminating in the release of his ‘Live’ album which sees him performing a myriad of his productions live on the fly.

His remix of Dark Globe’s ‘Atoms’ features on that compilation and it gets a full release on Global Underground’s Digital imprint in vocal and dub incarnations.

Now the combination of GU and Schwarz isn’t one which would immediately spring to mind; the German deep house maestro tends to appear on slightly more underground outlets, and the consequent sound is rather more progressive than we’re used to from him.

The vocal mix is an uncompromising display of pent up angst accentuated by Boy George’s powerful vocals, his delivery being akin to Robert Owens, which is a big compliment.

A simple punchy bass and sweeping pads flutter in the background, but the percussive elements belie a feeling of monotony, giving the arrangement a sense of purpose.

The only criticism here is that the main piano line sounds slightly out of place.

However, the rest of the production is of such high standard that this is quickly forgotten.

The Dub is essentially an instrumental, and the lack of vocal is to its detriment.

Stick to the full mix for a thought provoking mid set builder.
