always deliver strong hooks and memorable lead lines, so ‘At The Controls (Mix 1)’ is perhaps a slight departure for them in that, despite the song’s myriad of instrumental padding, it’s more about trippiness, the noise and the groove.
Containing a Reece bassline that rumbles in the low mids (the kind of tracks that use these basses usually blow up speaker stacks), it actually sits a tad awkwardly.
Luckily then, the other parts of Mix 1 are tight, and combine to make it a top tune.
Mix 1 contains a traditional techno/electro/house-style bassline playing out beneath some intricately woven and undeniably intoxicating staccato synth pokes.
The hypnotic vibe continues with aplomb as M.A.N.D.Y begin to throw in layer after layer of syncopated percussion; bongos; metal and wood; synthy arpegs and glitches.
So, in all, this is a rewarding dance track that, and one that will certainly grow on you.
Mix 2 is a kooky number indeed, with a strange, Inspector Gadget kind of vibe, which is laden with beautifully engineered pads and vocal edits.
This is definitely one to drop when the crowd are rushing – it’ll put them in a strange, warm place!
