Artist spotlight - ATFC

It’s fair to say that Aydin Hasirci (better known as ATFC) has been around the block.

The London-born house producer initially picked up the dance music bug in the early ‘90s.

Aydin relocated to Bournemouth while studying Art (of which he is a keen collector today), finding time while there to work at a local dance radio station.

Knocking out a frightening amount of tracks and remixes for over fifteen years on labels such as Defected, Toolroom Records and of course his own Onephatdeeva imprint, ATFC shows no signs of slowing down just yet.

His latest track ‘Praise to the JB’s’ recently topped the Beatport charts, strangely it was almost never released.

Initially the track was produced as a DJ tool to work in his sets, the Jungle Brothers classic hip-house ‘I’ll House You’ being the chosen accapella.

Defected - looking to beef up the pending release of Aydins ‘Juss a Beat’ EP asked for ‘Praise’ as a bonus instrumental and the rest is history.

ATFC humbly reveals “It’s crazy that an after-thought got to Number 1 on Beatport and even crazier considering it’s just a one note samba”.

Not one to pigeon-hole himself into one specific genre ATFC will also be releasing the awesome ‘Bad Weed’ EP on Toolroom Knights.

For many the title track was the highlight of Mark Knights recent ‘Toolroom Knights’ mix album.

A recent relocation with his family to Spain has lifted the pressures of living and working in the UK and as a result Aydins clearly having fun with the music again.

Gone is the plush UK purpose-built recording studio, replaced by a simpler set-up in a spare bedroom at home.

The track that possibly started the recent renaissance was his acclaimed remix of Dubfires ‘Roadkill’ arguably the biggest track of 2007.

Soon followed ‘Ya Killin Me’ a sublime remix of Funkermans ‘Speed Up’ and a more recently his own ‘
Juss a Beat’ track which has been damaging dancefloors across the globe this year.

Currently Aydins working his magic over at Defected, recently remixing the labels ‘ITH Miami 08’ album, along with label head Simon Dunsmore and Aaron Ross.

Following in the same vein the ATFC’s just finished mixing the ‘Defected: Goa in the House’ compilation - with India’s DJ Pearl - primed for release at the end of October.

A new set of remixes for Bad Habit (a track that’s never left the dancefloor since its original release in 1999) has also just been released on Defected.

Stanton Warriors, Spen and Jose Nunez all adding their unique take on the house classic.

Add to this a full DJ schedule until well into 2009 including dates in Egypt, London, Switzerland and Goa (for Defected as part of the Sunburn Festival).

With upcoming remixes for Chris Lake, a collaboration with Seamus Haji and news that he’s heading back into the studio to work with vocalists including Mone, Yasmeen and Rae - ATFC is clearly doing something that he loves.

“I have a burning passion for making music that makes people dance and seeing that music work.

I would be doing what I do if I were a millionaire or unemployed.”
