Arthur’s Landing discuss Arthur Russell

The work of Arthur Russell—a fixture on New York’s avant-garde scene of the ‘70s and ‘80s, who moved easily between the worlds of disco and experimental music—has provided inspiration for countless musicians since he died in 1992. His solo productions as well as his work as Loose Joints and Dinosaur L have been sampled, covered, interpreted, and imitated, making him a vastly influential force across house, disco, and even indie rock.

His legacy takes on yet another dimension with Arthur’s Landing, a group of Russell’s friends and longtime collaborators who bring his music to life in new arrangements for eight or more players. Produced and mixed by Brennan Green [a] and the group’s own Peter Zummo, their self-titled album ranges from soul-disco jams like “Love Dancing” (aka “Is It All Over My Face") to a psychedelic rework of Russell’s gentle “This Is How We Walk on the Moon.”

In a new video produced by Strut Records, the group’s members talk about the project and share memories of the late musician. It’s 16 minutes long, and definitely worth watching for anyone interested in Russell’s life and work.
