Arthur Russell documentary premieres in Berlin
17 January, 2008 | 11.43AM- Section: Music News Topics: Berlin
As Earplug points out, the 58th Annual Berlin International Film Festival has a premiere showing of a biopic of New York musician Arthur Russell.
Russell, who operated with various projects, including Dinosaur L, created disco experimentations that are often cited as a heavy influence on some of the early sounds to develop into what’s known today as house music.
Ever the experimenter, he also delved into the avant compositional territories with his cello and voice.
The highly personal documentary attempts to reveal the processes and life of the musician with rare footage and interviews, including appearances by Philip Glass, his parents (Chuck and Emily Russell), Allen Ginsberg, David Toop and many more.
The film, entitled ‘Wild Combination: A Portrait of Arthur Russell’ appears during the Festival, running from February 7th through 17th.
