Argentina club review: Analog Pussy @ Magic!
4 April, 2008 | 1.43AM- Section: Music News Topics: Beatport Blog
On Friday March 21st, it was time for yet another Magic!, Argentina’s longest running uplifting techno and proggy psy trance night.
Now in its seventh year, Magic! is nowhere near losing its momentum of being a top night out if you’re looking for energetic sounds.
Taking place in the specially decorated Niceto Club of Buenos Aires, it’s a highly recommended night if you’re into the UK trance vibe. Today’s invitee: Isreali freak psy rock n roll trance outfit Analog Pussy live, flown in from Berlin, the city that never sleeps.
Heavily inspired by UK trance nights such as Escape Of Samsara, the famous Brixton club night held in the Fridge for many years, it comes as no surprise that DJ Oberon, one of the residents at Magic!, is actually one of the ex key players of the London club trance all-nighter which was - after its resurrection - going strong until last year on the other side of the hemisphere.
With Oberon having chosen Argentina as his temporary home, it looks like the spirit lives on out here, especially as the second invitee today is Dill Zogg from Planet Zogg, a cosy crazy little psy trance place in the middle of the black hole that is the Midlands.
Far away on the other side of the universe, Oberon, now permanently part of the Magic crew that gathered around local founder DJ and producer Javier Bussola, opens tonight with an eclectic set that seems to pay tribute to the bombastic moments of rock although it’s a heavy pounding trance techno breaks sound, swiftly followed by the highly anticipated freak combo Analog Pussy.
Entering the stage with their trademark goggle-style sunglasses and huge smiles, they are accompanied by Emilio Rolon, an Argentinean guitar hero who previously played in Antonio Birabent’s band before getting immersed in solo projects.
He does a great job supporting the charismatic singer and bass player Jiga (and her crazy yellow Basslab bass) on stage firing up the people, while her partner Jinno, jams energetically on laptops and machines.
Delivering some of their greatest hits as well as some new productions which will be released on a new album when the time is right, Analog Pussy really got the party people completely gob-smacked.
Just coming up on the highly energetic grooves laid down by DJ Oberon, the diverse crowd reluctantly gives in to the rock powered electricity of songs like ‘Trance N Roll’, based on ‘Smoke On The Water’ and ‘We Are The World’.
Wildly head-banging to the heavy tunage, even those who are not familiar with Analog Pussy, who are flown in annually to grace the Magic events, get into the spirit of things and trance ‘n’ roll like crazy.
When Dill Zogg takes over, he has the crowd completely whipped and gagging for more so he dishes up some spanking club tunes that let them completely freak out.
Spinning until the very end, Dill, who has cut his dreadlocks in favor of a smartish look, had the people dancing, and with him and Oberon playing back to back for the last hour, it looked like everybody gave into the vibrant vibes of the party.
Surely a Magic! to remember. After countless events, all organized by Javier Bussola’s Ravepartiescorp that has been operating for over ten years now, it really feels like his crew has reached a level of total professionalism that still maintains the vibe of the Buenos Aires/London underground.
With lots of techno trance freaks from all over the world bouncing in colorful appearances on the dancefloor, it appears that traveling punters from all over the planet have chosen Magic! as their temporary home, and also the Argentinean ravers really know their shit and have it large.
Javier Bussola, one of the most renowned local DJs, is not only one of the founders of the local techno trance scene but also a father figure to the Argentinean electronic music scene in general.
He spins alongside Tiësto while maintaining an underground spirit that sees him organizing private parties in country houses and playing at Psytrance events in the mountains of the Andes almost every weekend.
At the end of the night, he cannot help but thank everybody before the people head home… a little drunk but very, very happy.
Rumor has it that Analog Pussy will return in November, and we will keep you posted about the developments in Buenos Aires.
