Antoine Clamaran explores new territory
3 March, 2008 | 4.21PM- Section: Music News Topics: House Nation
Antoine Clamaran has made quite a name for himself over the years with some fiery peak time French delights built on his more traditional filtered hard ‘n’ funky house roots.
His latest, the ‘One Week In Columbia’ EP on Congos Records, is anything but the hi-octane madness and filter frenzies of before.
Instead the Parisian takes a step back, and following in the footsteps of the likes of Roger Sanchez and Erick Morillo in the last millennium, explores a more tribal percussive path with a homage to the land of kidnapping, mule trafficking and coffee bean!
Of the quartet of cuts, our props go out to the lazy congas, percussive beats and snaking basslines of ‘National Airport Of Medellin’ with a great Latin-American rhythm and the sexy, sun-drenched house beats with percussion fills and light-handed bongo-lines of ‘Pereira Is Crazy’ (complete with “push it” hook and climatic drum attack).
A new direction perhaps, but one that’s already paying dividends.
Viva la musica!
