Upon first listen of the Designer Drugs Remix of Annie’s infectious new single ‘Anthonio’ my immediate thought was that her voice sounded just like Stacey Q singing the 1986 synthpop hit ‘Two of Hearts’. 

I even made a note of it for when writing this review; so imagine my self-congratulations when, upon checking out her myspace, I find that she has a cover of the very same song in her player. 

Thankfully the similarities to Stacey Q end there. 

Norweigian beauty Annie Lilia Berge Strand, now living in Berlin, has perked my ears before with the electro-twisted tune ‘The Wedding’ on K7 Records, as well as her synthpop-tastic major label hit ‘I Know UR Girlfriend Hates Me’. 

‘Anthonio’ has now instantly become my favorite of the bunch.

A longing plea for the whereabouts of a lost love (who sounds like a bit of a prick, actually), ‘Anthonio’ had me singing along to her self-described ‘pop with an electro-dance heart’ after only the first rotation on my headphones. Forget about it girl!  You’re too good for him!

Fred Falke turns out his remixes first, using uplifting and atmospheric synths which are a perfect compliment to her bittersweet crooning.

The Designer Drugs mixes are much heavier and faster electro disco fodder; better for when you need to dance out your frustrations over that jerk. On to the next one Annie!
