Announcing the Devo remix contest winners

In November, we announced that the post-punk, electronic-music pioneers Devo were offering two songs to be remixed by the Beatport community: their ‘80s hit “Freedom of Choice” and “What We Do,” off of their new album, Something for Everybody.

The response has been fantastic, and now, at last, we can announce the winners in the contest. Read on for the results! Updated: Now with top-spun results for both categories.

Devo, “What We Do (Avant Hard Remix)”

The winning remix of “What We Do” comes from Liverpool, UK’s Avant Hard, aka George O’Connor. His mix, which was one of the Beatport team’s editorial picks, fuses thumping beats to searing guitars and synths, updating the electro-pop original with a healthy dose of early 21st-century electro-house aggression.

Devo, “Freedom of Choice (Hoska & Osheen Last Minute Remix)”

The winning remix of “Freedom of Choice” comes from the top-spun selections, and the prize goes to Providence, RI’s Mike Hoska, whose releases on Beatport include many releases for NOSI Music, Irma Records, and, most recently, Blinded Records. Hoska’s remix turns the original’s ragged synth-rock into a surprisingly sleek electro-disco whirl.

Our two winners each take home a Native Instruments Maschine, V-Moda Crossfade LP headphones, a Devo live tour gear bundle, and a $250 Beatport voucher. Our red flowerpot hats go off to them—congratulations! And thanks to everyone who entered, listened, and voted.
