Announcing the Deadmau5 remix contest winner

At long last, it can be revealed: we have a winner in Deadmau5’ “SOFI Needs a Ladder” remix contest!

Two weeks ago, we announced the 10 semifinalists, whose final challenge was to create a 30-minute mini-mix demonstrating enough dexterity on the decks to qualify them as Deadmau5’ opening act at a forthcoming gig. After much deliberation, Deadmau5 and his team have made their selection. Read on to find out the winner.

Deadmau5, “SOFI Needs a Ladder (MosDam Remix)

Vancouver, B.C.’s MosDam takes the grand prize with a tense, techy remix that adds evil vocal processing, driving chord stabs, and a monstrous low end.

For his DJ set, meanwhile, MosDam whipped up a set heavy on his own edits. Opening with a cheeky “Master of Puppets” riff, he segues through Blaqstarr & Diplo’s “Get Off” before launching into custom reworks of Deadmau5’s “Some Chords,” “SOFI Needs a Ladder,” and “Cthulhu Sleeps,” finally wrapping up with his own edit of Cirez D’s “The Tumble.”

In addition to the honor of having his “SOFI Needs a Ladder” remix released on mau5trap—and getting to open for Deadmau5 at a forthcoming gig—MosDam also takes home a pair of V-MODA Crossfade LP headphones, a $250 Beatport credit, and a Beatport swag pack.

Congratulations to MosDam, and thanks to everyone who entered or voted!
