It Began in Africa: The Producers’ Contest

It Began in Africa: The Producers’ Contest

Dance music is deeply rooted in African soil; now it’s your chance to give something back.

Following last year’s charity compilation, It Began in Africa, Kittball Records [l] and Beatport invite aspiring producers to produce their own track inspired by Africa, using the vocal parts—recorded by the African Children’s Choir—that were featured in Andreas Henneberg & Simon2’s “Bolingo Gringo,” which spent seven weeks in the Beatport Top 10.

Whether you consider your track a remix or a total remake, it’s your opportunity to work with some amazing musical material—and to help a very worthy cause.

The winning entry will be featured on It Began in Africa Vol. 2, with the winning remixer taking home $200 in Beatport credit, a V-Moda Crossfade headphones unit, plus a Kittball promo package. All proceeds from the compilation will go towards charity efforts in Africa.

The political situation throughout the world is reaching an ever-growing state of imbalance, where the poorest increasingly suffer. Especially in Africa, children have it very hard. They grow up in an environment that offers few resources and are exposed to a life of inhuman circumstances. No education, no medical care, and worst of all, not enough to eat. Both volumes of It Began in Africa are designed to raise awareness of these injustices and to raise money on behalf of legitimate aid groups in Africa.

The money donated back to the African Children’s Choir goes to support their efforts to help children escape a life on the streets, through various development efforts, founding nurseries and schools, and other initiatives.

To produce the It Began in Africa compilation, Kittball Records worked closely with the African Children’s Choir, licensing 17 of their songs to be remixed by the likes of Timo Maas, Format B, Ida Engberg, Martin Eyerer, Daniel Steinberg, and others. Confirmed artists for volume two include Basti Grub, &ME, Gorge, Aki Bergen aka Neuroxyde, Doomwork, Turntabelrocker, Daniel Steinberg, Dapayk, Oliver Klein, Ante Perry, Kolombo, Delicious, Tube & Berger, Heartik, Pirupa, Chris Lattner, and Juliet Sikora. Yours could be the next name on that list.
