Minilogue [Cocoon]
31 May, 2008 | 8.54AMSwedish duo Minilogue![[a]](http://www.beatportal.com/images/site/misc/wiki_box_a.gif)
have spent the last few years shaking off the shackles of their early progressive outings, thanks to their prolific run of sophisticated, drawn out liquid minimalism on labels like Traum, Mule and many more.
Nonetheless, there’s an epic feeling to this sprawling double album that suggests, in classic proggy fashion, a pair of artists known for their dancefloor hits who want to, like, branch away from the beats, man.
Flippancy aside, this is actually a fine album, and evidence of two guys very much in control of their machines.
The first CD adheres more to the 4-4 flow, with a couple of downtempo excursions sitting comfortably alongside a smattering of typically powerful Minilogue dancefloor writhers (including their Youtube fave, ‘Hitchhiker’s Choice’).
The second CD, meanwhile, delves further into the realms of fuzzed-out abstraction, soothing the synapses with 14 cuts of low-key pleasure.
To their credit, the album remains musically distinct from their also-impressive IMPS release (available now on Mule Musiq) throughout.
Looks like this is Minilogue’s month.
