Andy Caldwell @ Sullivan Room NYC
10 February, 2008 | 6.47PM- Section: Music News
As some of you might now, New York was invaded by hedge fund geeks and bottle service a few years back, flooding the clubs with over-dressed crowds and commercial music.
A few clubs in the city, however, strive to provide the people with quality house music and Sullivan room is one of them.
On this Saturday night, west coast house maestro Andy Caldwell was behind the tables or should I say 3 CDJs and a Final Scratch. Sullivan Room is located in downtown Manhattan in a an underground space with exposed brick and a thumping sound system. The crowd is always hip and funky with a solid knowledge of dance music. Andy got on at about 1am and spun a three hour set. He started the night with his signature groovy house and moved on to a more electro bass style with a bit of tribal thrown in. Andy did a good job building the crowd and by 3am the place was jumping. One of the big tracks of the night was Kid Massive - “Check this out”. After Andy got off the crowd started to thin out and by 5am it was time for the next destination, which in my case was home. All and all, is was a great night and Andy continues to show why he is a class act in the dance music scene. On Feb 23rd, Kaskade, one of Andy’s collaborators will be spinning, as Sullivan room continues to showcase quality talent.
